Explore iVillage Threads

Most of you have probably seen "Explore iVillage" threads --CLs post a thread and invite other cls to post on her board and promote their own board or chat. Some members have complained about these threads and some people say they disrupt the discussions on the the Team boards.

Explore iVillage threads were an extremely clever idea when they first started, but they've gotten so popular that some people now see them as "sanctioned spam."

Before starting an Explore iVillage thread, think about whether your board really needs this type of activity. Is your board busy enough to handle an explore iVillage thread? If your board is slow, these threads can makes it look less appealing because they don't relate to the topic of the board. To make these threads work, it is best if the promos appeal to members who post on the board.

What are some other ways to promo your board or chat? Here are a few ideas:

  • Discuss your board on your team board, on the Village Voice, on Board Q and A. Talk about the topic, about what is happening on the board, about interesting members of the board.
  • Add a clickable link to your board after your signature on your posts . Make it easy to find.
  • Be friendly to other cls and talk to them on the team boards. Put links to other boards, chats and challenges in posts on your board. If you tell your members about another CL's board, drop her a line and say "Watch for my member(s). I sent her over." If you promote her board, she's likely to remember you -- and she may reciprocate. Word of mouth is the best advertisement!
