Things to keep in mind when using the question library
 
1. Not all questions are appropriate for your board. Keep in mind your members as well as the tone and topic of your board when you ask a question.  ALWAYS USE DISCRETION!
 
2. Keep individuality in your board. Don't work your way through the questions as a way of not having to think about your board. Instead read the questions and think about how you can use a similar question for your board. Don't be what one Improve iVillage post called an iVillagebot. Friday Fives are great things for message boards, that doesn't make them the only great way to build community on the board.
 
3. Vary the type of queston you ask. Nothing is more boring for your members than five favorite questions. Nothing is more boring for you to respond to than the answers to those!
 
4. Use off-topic questions in moderation. Even on-topic questions should not be blasted at your board.
 
5. Presentation is everything. "What is your favorite birthday cake?" is not a bad question for a board celebrating a lot of birthdays. But, it isn't a great question unless accompanied by a bit of a story: "When I was growing up we always got to choose our birthday cake. I always chose a Marble Swirl Cheesecake, not because it was my favorite cake, I am not sure I had one, but because my mother always made a production out of making it, that was my choice. She had a recipe that required her to "use every bowl and pot in the house." All the fuss made it not an every day cake, but a special cake. I always felt special when she made it. Today, seeing a marble swirl cheesecake reminds me of those birthdays, but I am often disappointed, because of course, no one's tastes as good as mama's cheesecake. So, there is a little ramble about my favorite birthday cake, what is your favorite?"
 
Quirks of the New and Improved Question Library!

1. Or questions and Favorite questions are not generally mixed in with the category questions. Check them out when you want to ask this sort of question. (For instance: What is your favorite ice cream flavor? is not in the food section.  Beatles or Elvis is not in the Entertainment section)
2. Questions about holidays, parenting, pregnancy, and sex are no longer generally mixed in with the questions listed by type of question. (There may be a few that snuck in!) If these sorts of questions are appropriate for your board, look for them by category
3. Some questions may be listed in one category that would suit another category equally well. I didn't generally double list questions.
