Hot Summer Ideas!

Has your board become a ghost town now that summer has started? You can prevent or lessen the impact of the summer doldrums!

Here are some ideas:

  • Keep your board interesting and moving. Keep talking and make sure it is something worth talking about. If you wouldn’t be moved to respond to the same post on someone else’s board, then don’t expect your members to do the same on yours.
  • Use iVillage content to spark discussion. We have great summer content. Use it as jumping off points
  • Where are your members going on vacation? Have members find and share information on those places with each other so that you can help plan and go with them in a virtual vacation way. Who can come up with the oddest attraction at your member’s destination? Most romantic? What is the must see list?
  • Light hearted summer fun goes over well. Maybe a weekly visit from the ice cream truck? A snow cone stand? Take your board on a virtual vacation or trip to the fair or a theme park.
  • Party! Have you thought about having a party for your board? A summer theme party might go over well. Or a barbecue. If it goes over well you could even have weekly barbecues over the summer.
  • Have you thought about turning Wednesday into Wednesday water play day? Sprinklers, water balloons, a pool? How can you play with that idea to make it a source of fun and stress relief for your board?
  • Summer heat makes some members grumpy. How about asking about Pet Peeves?
  • Don’t forget your topic but pace it correctly. Don’t expect members to drop their summer plans and participate in big projects or challenges. If you have a parenting board don’t drag out back to school discussions too early but also don’t wait until too late. If you have a health board where members should be careful of the sun, don’t wait until July to brainstorm tips on how to avoid sun exposure. Remember always your members though. If they have the time or desire to discuss or work on a mini-challenge…then do it!
